First off I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I hope each of you has been able to spend some quality time with friends, family and loved ones during this holiday season. I want to take this time to invite you all to attend a Beta Iota Alumni get together to watch the Portland Winterhawks take on the Tri-City Americans at the Rose Garden on December 28th!

For those of you who may not know, the Portland Winterhawks play in the Western Hockey League which has produced current NHL Stars Marion Hossa, Carey Price and Brandon Dubinsky along with many others. This is a great opportunity to get together with guys from old and new pledge class' alike and watch the NHL Stars of tomorrow. Recent graduate Michael Van Bronkhorst, who is currently the account manager for the Winterhawks Hockey Team, has presented us with a fantastic group rate for club level seats.

Shown to the left are the 32 new pledges in our house this fall. We are all extremely pleased with how our rush went, and couldn’t be more thrilled for this year’s class. This picture was taken during bid day down on 13th street in the campus. You can see an individual profile off all these guys on our members page under pledges.

Spring and Summer Updates... A New look

The end of the 2009-2010 school year brought much excitement to our chapter house. We initiated 3 new members in the Spring and graduated 30 seniors. Over the summer President Scott Rousseau lived in the chapter house alone to aid (along with house manager Daryl Egbert) in the make-over of the chapter house. The chapter house underwent many repairs and renovations and this week we re-opened with work week. The house hasn’t looked this great in years and we all are excited and anticipating the upcoming year!

Sigma Chi Awarded 9th Peterson in 11 years.

Our Consul, Pro Consul, Magister, Quaester and Recruitment Chairmen just returned from BLTW in North Carolina where our chapter was awarded our 9th Peterson Chapter Excellence Award in the last 11 years.

We also are proud to announce the awards we were given from the University of Oregon this spring in honor of our houses hard work. Those awards included:

-Best New Member Program

-Best Philanthropy (Frohnmayer Fanconi anemia research fund)

-Most Money Raised during Philanthropy (over $20,000)

-Best Community Relations

-Sustainability

-Intramural Sports

New Sigma Chi Leaders Voted

After numerous weeks of elections and voting, the new executive committee and house board has finally been voted upon by the chapter. Three seniors will once again be represented on Exec demonstrating our brothers’ continual dedication to give-back to the chapter even after years of work and effort. Duties will be transitioned starting in the Spring term and Sigma Chi is striving to have another successful year in 2010/11.
